There has been intense research on this disease, and an interesting result has emerged: sometimes the body heals cancer all by itself. An article from the New York Times highlights the facts.
I have read another article in the recent past (though I can't remember where or the author) that stated that most people have cancer at least 6 times in their lives, and the majority of those cases self-resolve. No doubt there will be more research into those cases that do spontaneously resolve, with a goal of teasing out the variables that seem to facilitate endogenous extermination of cancer.
